I haven't read any! I feel a little burned out by weird women doing weird things books but Big Swiss is at the top when I'm ready again

FAIR! And relatable! I will definitely report my findings on Big Swiss. I feel like you and I will both love it though!

So I have a story about that Bill Bryson book. I’d always loved science but during my mid/late teens a number of things happened that convinced me I wasn’t smart enough to pursue that in any way and I opted for what I perceived to be soft and easy subjects for my A Levels. I got that book for my 18th birthday and it reignited both my love of science but also my conviction that I could indeed pursue it and I went to university to study physics. I wasn’t able to finish my degree for financial reasons but that book is the reason I have several university certificates including one in astrophysics on my wall.

Seeing the Bill Bryson book made me laugh. That book sat next to my bed in our little rv camper for a handful of years. It was a perfect book to dip into between my fiction choices on our summer excursions. Bryson is incredibly accessible, and the big thoughts talk was reminiscent of sitting with my dad when I was little.

Listened to Big Swiss and loved it!

I adore that memory!!! How sweet! I can totally see that. He is really accessible, you're right. I should challenge myself to read it for 10 minutes and see how it feels.

Cannot wait for Big Swiss!

Yes - almost too much. If you've read Bryson before, you'll know he's quite verbose. I actually read that for a cosmology course in college (which speaks to its quality, but also it's density).

Woods was excellent - the only downsides are that it's not indexed well; he moves from topic to topic quickly. Also, he references a lot of older texts to exemplify his points, but I'd not read many of them, so it was at times hard to keep my bearings.

Good to know -- I'll be prepared for that! Yes Bryson is verbose but he balances it with humor, which I think is what makes him successful!

I've read the Bryson and Woods books - both are excellent. But the others look intriguing as well!

Did you learn about everything in the Bryson book?! It is so intimidating to me. You enjoyed Woods? I’ll be picking that one up soon!

I loved Big Swiss, agree with others, it's weird but I thought listening to it was especially great. I'm reading The Opposite of Fate by Amy Tan now and enjoying it

Is it because it’s flying off the shelves?! I’m so excited to read it. I just have to figure out if I’m going to put it in front of allllll the other books or not!
