Just finished OT. That was a magical read. I couldn’t get enough of our hero the mountain lion, his observations about his people, and his journey through ellay were just a riot. I’ve recommended this to 3 others already and appreciate the referral here!!
Open Throat was one of my favorite reads this year. Loved your treatment of it here. Long live the shorties like OT, The Buddha in the Attic, We the Animals, and a zillion books from France and elsewhere abroad!
According to Libby, it's narrated by Pete Cross and runs ~2 hours. Try it out! It's categorized under LGBTQIA fiction. I'd be SO eager to hear your thoughts on it.
It's such a beautiful book-- and it is a beautiful act on the part of FSG that they published it as a novel (not novella) in a hardcover edition! Truly, that's no small thing and quite courageous.
Yes! I forgot to mention that. They boldly positioned it as a novel -- who cares that the length is technically novella. Like you said in your article, the short novel is on the rise and I am SO happy about that.
Ok, you have totally convinced me to put a hold on this at my library! Like you, when I hear that a book has a non-human narrator I'm usually like...nah! But this review has got me hooked!
This book sounds so compelling! I used to have a hard time relating to a book that asks me to suspend disbelief when it comes to animal POVs, but I LOVED Lessons in Chemistry, Remarkably Bright Creatures and Big Gay Wedding, which all do a version of this. I will add this one to my list! ❤️
I am the same way! I was initially quite turned off by Six-Thirty in Lessons in Chemistry, but then I kind of fell in love with him and loved when we got to hear his POV. Remarkably Bright Creatures is on my TBR. Should I read Big Gay Wedding?? I think I should.

YES! Thank you for taking a chance on the mountain lion. I knew you would like it!

YES! The shorties are so well-crafted and tight. I'm just amazed by them.
I wonder who reads the audio - I’ll take a look since this sounds like a fun book for my commutes

Enjoy Open Throat if you read it!
BGW was surprisingly moving and so full of heart... one of my favourite books of the year! The cover doesn’t do it justice, in my opinion!
I've heard Byron on a podcast and I loved him. Adding to my list!
