This was such a fun post! I was just in Minneapolis but had no idea about the state fair, I'll have to plan a visit around it. All of this looks delicious (although I'm not a snow cone fan) but I am extra into the Witches pairing because I loved that book too
I have fond memories of the county fair, too. Such good days!
I just realized the devastating fact that my notifications for post comments were off and I missed so many of them. I'm going through and responding -- four months later! Forgive me! 🥴
Kolina! Lifelong Minnesotan here, complete and total Fair enthusiast. The taqitos and Nordic waffles look amazing. I tried the 3 piggies on a stick: amazing. Also the Jamaican lemonade. And the berry-and-cheese plate drizzled with hot honey in the Grandstand. Can’t remember the name of the restaurant!🤬 Lingonberry honey ice cream: wasn’t thrilled. Love your idea of book pairings but I’ll have to get back to you. Reading: Creation Lake by Rachel Kushner.
Coincidentally, I’ve been struggling with a State Fair-themed post. How to do justice to this event that’s so significant to our state? Thank you for your foodie/bibliophile take on it. Maybe we should tag our fellow Minnesota Substackers. It could be fascinating to hear different perspectives.
Okay, this is brilliant. Are you based in Minnesota?
I am based in Minnesota! Where are you based?
I’m in Minneapolis!
Amazing!! I’m in Plymouth!

YES! Come in August! It always goes up right until Labor Day. (I'm not a snow cone gal either).
That looks like a blast Kolina! I have never been to a state fair but we always went to the county fair when I was a kid. I miss those days!

What a fun read! I miss Minnesota ❤️
I'm incredibly hungry and envious right now.
Hahah the food was so good! I’m hungry now too.
Brilliant post, Kolina!! Those taquitos look so good....
They were!!! I could’ve used a tiny bit more spice but the flavor was so good I let it slide. Thanks so much for reading! 🫶🏽
My two pleasures in life in one post. Food and books!
I wrote it just for people like you! (And me.) ☺️
