Thanks for this list. I’ve read The Anxious Generation. I might listen to it again on audiobook. It is definitely an important subject and book!

YES, I agree, and I'm not even done with it! I have the hardcover too. I feel like it's something I'll need to refer back to over and over again. It's so scary but at least someone (the author) has thought through what the heck to do about it!

Fantastic resource, thank you for sharing, getting into audiobooks is one of my big resolutions for this year, if anything as a way to force myself to sit less - I now listen while walking around my kitchen to get the blood flowing.

Anxious Generation is also on my TBR (or is it now TBL?) list.

It's so great to listen while cooking, walking, cleaning, folding laundry, etc. Good luck on your resolution to listen to more audiobooks!

Friend, maybe read the Anxious Generation while holding a grain of salt. I made a tiktok—that got a lot of comments— about why you might not want to get too worked up about it https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8YBLc6u/

I love audiobooks. I'll be listening to Margot for my IRL book club. My son has been telling me to read Breath, I know I'm a mouth breather at night but I keep telling myself mouth tape would be uncomfortable - did you find it hard to use? One of my all time favorite audiobooks is The Only Plane in the Sky by Garrett Graff, I think there's 45 narrators- it's just incredibly well produced. Sad but also touching and inspirational

I was very surprised at how little the mouth tape bothered me! I used surgical tape I had lying around. Just a tiny piece. He explained it in the book like a Charlie Chaplin mustache style piece but down an inch so it covered both lips. I thought it was a good image! I think the author could only do like 5 minutes the first night so I expected to do something similar, but I slept all night with it on my first go. It almost relaxed me in a weird way.

I did it for a couple nights then got the flu and haven’t returned to the practice. I’m going to try again tonight!

That audiobook sounds fascinating and I’m requesting it from the library now. Thank you!

I'm listening to The Anxious Generation right now! It's excellent and yes, everyone should read it. Putting your others on my Libby list if they have them (I've been meaning to read Breath forever)...thank you!

Oh amazing! It’s so good but it’s also making me so anxious 🤪. Especially since some of my 7-year-old’s friends already have iPhones. But the book is providing me with the info I need to enable my kids to have regular-ish childhoods.

I’m so glad you’re putting the others on your list! Lmk if you read them! Breath is life-changing.

This is so good! I've been loving short stories on audio recently because I can take one at a time and then mull it over. It feels like watching one episode of a TV show at a time. It's working well for me!

Breathe rocked my foundation too! That is the most perfect way to phrase it! I've been mouth-taping when I sleep for the last few years and it's made such a difference. Also these are all such great picks, we have such similar taste!

I don't listen to audiobooks much but I had to jump on when I saw you reviewed and loved Breath. I started mouth taping after reading it and have actually seen a difference in my sleep. I second this recommendation! I also enjoyed his other book about free-diving, which I read first. Mind blowing what the body is capable of.

I haven't read that one but now I want to! How many nights did you do mouth taping? I swear I noticed a difference after two nights. Then my whole family got the flu and I gave it up. I'm ready to try it out again though!

Jaymi “the OC BookGirl”'s avatar

I try most nights to do it. I sometimes tear it off in the night and then find it stuck to my hair or the blanket, though! I've tried nose gym and papmd—which brand did you try?

I don't know! I'll have to look. It was just a little dispenser of surgical tape I had lying around and it was perfect.

One time I found it on my cheek when I woke up. Then I had a weird memory of putting it there because my kid came into my room and needed something. And I thought that was a smart place to put it?

I think I'll break out the tape again and continue my path to not subconsciously being a mouth breather!

Margo is on my Holds list on Libby; looking forward to listening. Interesting how views differ though - I absolutely hated the audiobook of On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous and had to switch to the paper book to get through it (my book club had picked it). None of us liked the audio of it!

OMG I honestly love that. I loved the drama of it. It's a little melodramatic but I thought it was beautiful! Like poetry. But I can absolutely see how it's not everyone's cup of tea.

I'll be eager to hear if you like Margo!

So, I’m listening to Margo’s Got Money Troubles now, and while I agree the narration is fine (nothing special, but not bad; I’ve no idea who Elle Fanning is, so not sure if more was expected of her?), I’m seriously debating DNFing the book; I’m 35% of the way through and have been wondering this since probably 15%, just trying to figure out if it will get better and what all the hype is. Maybe they just had a really good marketing team?
