My book club of 25 members unanimously loved "Remarkably Bright Creatures".
However, we all determined that Marcellus was referring to some humans as the remarkably bright creatures. Research on the intelligent octopus led us to another wonderful book, " The Soul of an Octopus" by Sy Montgomery. So much fun for a group of readers over age 50 to learn something
new and amazing. We'll never look at an octopus the same way again.
I'm so glad you shared about Remarkably Bright Creatures! I, too, had passed it over because I didn't think I'd be interested in an octopus narrator but your review has changed my mind.
YES Michelle! You will love it. Marcellus doesn’t get a whole lot of narrating airtime. I wish he had more pages honestly! I was always excited when I got to one of his chapters, and his were 1-2 pages max. It’s mostly human narrators.
Thanks for the recommendations. We can all use something reassuring and affirming. I keep that in mind when I am writing. I've read some french literature in french: La Parure, Le Petit Prince, La Porte Etroite (Gide), a Stupeur et tremblements (Amelie Nothomb), L'homme qui plantait des arbres (J Giono). I need to tackle some bigger endeavors. Good luck with your finds.
Kolina- This is a great recommendation. And I loved what you shared: “Now that I’m done with HP, I can attempt to read Elena Ferrante in her native tongue. I’m a bit nervous, if I’m being honest!” I can’t tell you how many times I’ve felt this about certain books. So I’m glad I’m not the only one. 🤓
Oh funny! I thought Marcellus thought humans were dumbasses! 🤣😂

That’s an impressive list of French literature! Wow! Yes, reassuring can be so nice (and necessary).
